The New American Citizen

We are at the dawn of a new age in America. The old ways are proving less and less viable. Sustainability is not a new word, it is the word for what came before. Now, there is unsustainable debt, unsustainable regulations, unsustainable oppression, unsustainable ignorance, unsustainable leisure, unsustainable inattention. Common sense tells us all we need to know about the future of America. It is up to us.

What we used to do can no longer be done. I don't care if that means something different to everyone. We cannot live this way. We cannot let the government run itself, it is incapable of it. Think of the government as a group of teen-agers. It is irresponsible. It lies to itself and to us. It goes off on spending sprees it cannot afford. It refuses to take the blame for anything it does. Like a teen-ager on a drunken binge, it careens down the hall spilling beer and breaking things and pointing at everyone else in the room as the cause.

We are the parents, the landlords, the cops on the beat, the nun with the ruler. It is our job to be these things and not to turn a blind eye to their excesses and disorderly conduct.

MamaLiberty left a comment on the Eve of Conflict and wanted to know where the teeth was in the proposal being made. Well, it wasn't in the proposal, because it is implied in the Declaration of Independence. The question is when do we give up on this form of government?

In the Declaration of Indpendence it clearly sets out that:

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

There is a time coming when we are going to need to move toward the Constitution, or toward socialism/communism. We are going to have to perfect our methods of injecting the people into these decisions before the government takes it upon itself to decide for us. We need to build muscle before we can flex it. This is exercise that we are engaging in, getting us in shape for the big decisions later.
